Project description

It is an impressive example of how light becomes an essential component of architecture and simultaneously takes on both functional and design tasks: the pier in Koserow on Usedom. In a special version, over 1 kilometre of LED light lines from the slimlux flex series trace both the curved shape of the 280 m long bridge and the straight lines of the seating and reclining elements on the viewing platform at the end of the bridge.

From a groove in the handrail, the light lines indirectly illuminate the paths and provide safety when strolling. In the multi-level seating and reclining elements at the bridge head, the recessed light lines indirectly illuminate the individual levels. The demands on the technology are high in this environment. All elements, both the light line itself and the cables, cable connections and operating devices, must permanently withstand all adverse weather conditions. A high protection rating of IP67 and resistance to salt water are indispensable prerequisites for the use of the lighting solution.

Another requirement is vandalism resistance. Here, the combination of the design of the light line and the type of installation protects against possible damage or destruction.

The architecture of the Koserow pier is extraordinary: the wave-shaped construction, built on 67 piers, winds elegantly into the Baltic Sea. At the end of the bridge, the spacious platform offers space to linger and for smaller cultural events. Another highlight is the five-metre high bell tower placed here, into whose steel construction the slimlux flex light line from dot-spot was also incorporated. The tower is reminiscent of the sunken city of Vineta. According to legend, the Atlantis of the North was located directly in front of Koserow. Every Wednesday at 4 p.m., the bells ring after the legend of the sunken city is read out.

The pier is one of the tourist attractions in the region - during the day and especially at night.
